Rent-A-Text Offered This Fall

Rent-A-TextSacramento State’s University Enterprises, Inc. and Follett Higher Education Group announced an alternative textbook program to students this fall called Rent-A-Text.

Rent-A-Text will be offered on approximately 500 textbook titles at more than 55 percent off the retail price. For instance, a title that retails at $100 new and $75 used will be available to rent for just $42.50.

“I think our students will appreciate the diversification and choose which program is right for them,” says Pam Parsons, Director of the Hornet bookstore. “Now students will have more options when they go to purchase textbooks: new, used, electronic books and rentals.”

“The Rent-A-Text program is something we are pleased to offer the campus this year,” says UEI Executive Director Jim Reinhart, who adds UEI aims to deliver high-quality and affordable products and services to the campus community.

The Hornet Bookstore is one of just seven Follett-managed bookstores in the country to pilot a full program which offers students the ability to rent books from a selection of textbook titles.

Students interested in the Rent-A-Text program can visit the Hornet Bookstore online to get more information as well as view a complete title selection at the Hornet Bookstore.

Sacramento State to Provided Bikes for Going Green
Aug. 28, 2009: Sacramento State provided up to 75 bicycles to residents at the Upper Eastside Lofts University-affiliated housing as part of its Go Green, Get Gold program on Sunday, Aug. 30, at the lofts’ parking lot. The program promotes green living by encouraging students to adopt clean modes of transportation in lieu of dependence on automobiles and other carbon dioxide-producing vehicles.

To receive a bike, students must have signed a commitment to use bicycle and public transportation such as the Light Rail Transit for daily transportation needs and get around the city of Sacramento. Students also agreed not to park a vehicle on campus or in the Upper Eastside Lofts parking lot and attended a bicycle safety and maintenance seminar.

The Go Green, Get Gold program is sponsored by the Power Inn Alliance, the Sacramento Area Council of Governments, the Sacramento Transportation Management Association, University Enterprises, Inc., Upper Eastside Lofts and Peak Adventures. The bikes were purchased under a grant from SACOG and awarded by the Power Inn Alliance.
