University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) is pleased to announce a renewal of the UEI Faculty Grants Program for 2011-12. This program is open to all tenured and tenure-track faculty, although preference will be given to requests from Assistant or Associate Professors. Awards will be granted for faculty professional development activities pursued during the 2011-12 academic year, and may be applied retroactively to reimburse faculty for the cost of professional activities personally paid for retroactive to July 1, 2011.

At least $50,000 will be distributed, and typical awards will be between $750 and $1,000. There were two deadlines, February 15th and April 13th, with funds allocated to each deadline and reviews beginning immediately thereafter. All funds must be expended by September 1, 2012.  While we wish the awards could be larger, it is our hope that they will augment support for activities that faculty consider important to their professional careers such as travel to professional conferences, manuscript preparation, data collection, and supplies necessary for scholarship and creative activities.

Applications will be reviewed by UEI board members Dave Evans (Chair of the Department of Geology) and Don Taylor (Assistant Vice President (Interim) for Academic Programs and Global Engagement) as well as David Earwicker (Assistant Vice President for Research Administration) of Academic Affairs. Their reviews will ensure that requests comply with the program goal of supporting faculty professional development through scholarship and creative activities.

Similar to past offerings, the committee will keep the application process simple, while assuring that funds will be used to enhance professional activities. The number of Faculty Grants awarded will depend on the availability of funds.
