LEED Certification

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is an extensive program of rating buildings and developments, assigning point scores for each aspect of a project that contributes to meeting the LEED sustainability goals.  LEED compliance is a specific intention of the CSU Executive Order No. 987 - Policy Statement on Energy Conservation, Sustainable Building Practices, and Physical Plant Management for the California State University.  LEED compliance is now widely accepted as a new standard for the built environment.

The U.S. Green Building Council, the Congress for the New Urbanism, and the Natural Resources Defense Council, who together represent the nation's leaders in the design, building, planning, development, and environmental professions, have joined together in developing the LEED rating systems.  The Village is now a pilot project and will help test out the new LEED-ND (Neighborhood Development) rating system.  Possibly, individual building types within the Village will also score high in the LEED-H (Homes) pilot rating system.
